PAUL G. McCAGHREN , Founder (Retired)

Paul, founder of Paul McCaghren and Associates, is now retired having proudly served as its president for 31 years and investigative consultant for another five years after selling to Brad Smith in 2005.

Prior to forming his own private investigation and background screening company in 1974, Paul served a six year tour-of-duty with the United States Marine Corps (USMC).  Paul followed his military experiences with a 22 year career with the Dallas Police Department (DPD).  Among his many notable assignments, Paul, then a young lieutenant in the Intelligence Section was tasked to head up the team of investigators investigating the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald by Jack Ruby in the basement of Dallas City Hall after the JFK assassination.  Paul also participated in the corresponding investigation of the assassination of President Kennedy.  Paul, ultimately, rose to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police before retiring from DPD.

Paul earned a Master of Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 1973 and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in 1972, and was a graduate of the Southwestern Law Enforcement Institute - Southwestern Police Academy in 1965.

Little known is that Paul was awarded the Purple Heart for his valor at the Chosin Reservoir (truly one of The Chosin Few) during the Korean War, an act of bravery we are very proud of - even if it is one he would like to forget.  Semper fi !
