Intelligence Gathering - OSINT (Open Source Intelligence)
At first glance the term “Intelligence Gathering” likely conjures images of military actions. Though true, it actually applies to all investigative processes, civil, criminal, military, government, private, corporate, and in recent history in civilian circles referred to as OSINT (Open-Source Investigation Techniques). Good intelligence gathering involves a deep dive into numerous sources of information, involving internet, both deep web and dark web, social media, as well as government, and public, private sources, sometimes requiring legal support through the subpoena process. Examples of the goal of OSINT investigations is to locate information to determine an agenda, threat or concern, simply to acquire specific information to allow an advantage or help avoid risk in a situation such as pending litigation, due diligence in both business and personal relationships or even a personal protection issue. The target of this information gathering process can be an individual, group, organization or entity.
At any rate, this type of skill or service should be a part of every legal, corporate, investigative operation and even personal situations to a degree, where decision making is critical.
The best decisions cannot be made without the best available information.
