Although the cost of outsourcing background screening and security will be higher than handling in-house, the cost pales in comparison to the potential liability for negligent hiring and security breaches.  

• The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) provides legal immunity to employers who hire third-party investigators.  There is no comparable immunity for employers who conduct their own investigations.  The same applies to workplace investigations involving employees.
  
• In house personnel do not usually have the experience or skills to interpret the raw data which is then refined to the level found in final reports.  An example would be, not all information found is reportable or usable when making employment decisions. 
• Outsourcing background screening and internal investigations frees employers to focus their attention and abilities on customer and employee needs and the demands of their specific jobs.
